As we left Manang Village in the early hours, the valley below was cloaked in golden light, with tendrils of smoke rising from the chimneys. It felt like stepping through a portal to a bygone era — a world where life is slower, simpler, and intimately connected to the Earth.

🧡 The story behind this image

There’s a haunting stillness in the early morning hours when the world is still waking up. That morning, we were setting out for one of the most gruelling days of the Annapurna trek, a relentless climb toward Thorong La Pass. I was bracing myself for the physical and mental challenge ahead, but before I could take that first step, something made me turn around.

Manang Village was bathed in a soft, golden glow. The smoke from morning fires curled through the air like whispers, and the whole valley seemed to shimmer with a sacred stillness. It was as though time had slowed, and I was witnessing a world that felt like a memory.

Standing there, looking down at the village, I felt like I was stepping through a portal — leaving behind the comforts of community and the warmth of a hearth to step into the unknown, into the rugged vastness of the mountains. This image is a tribute to that liminal space, to the moments of pause before the journey begins, and to the beauty of a world that holds echoes of a simpler, slower way of being.
